Short Biography:

She has a degree in Social Sciences from the University of São Paulo. She has a Master's degree, PhD and Associate Professorship in Sociology from USP. She has been a full professor of Sociology at USP since 2005. She is a 1A researcher at CNPq.

She was Director of the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences at the University of São Paulo. She is a senior researcher at the Institute of Social and Political Studies of São Paulo-IDESP - having participated in the History of Social Sciences in Brazil project.

Its area of investigation comprises research within the scope of the sociology of culture; social history of intellectuals, literature and arts; sociology of mass communication; sociological theory.

She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Classical and Contemporary Sociological Theory, Sociology of Culture, and Brazilian Social Thought. She trained more than 50 masters and doctors.

She held, among others, the following institutional positions: she was Pro-Rector of Culture and University Extension at the University of São Paulo (2010-2015). She was a representative of the FFLCH Congregation on the University Council (2005-2008); Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Sociology (1991-1996) at the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences at the University of São Paulo; She was Head of the Sociology Department (2005-2008); Representative of the Sociology Area at the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel - CAPES (1997-2001); Representative of the Human Sciences Area on the Scientific Technical Council - CTC of CAPES (1998-2001); Executive Secretary of the National Association of Postgraduate Studies and Research in Social Sciences - ANPOCS (2000-2004);

She is a member of Editorial Boards of journals in Brazil and abroad and advisor to national and international Research Agencies.

Among her works, the following stand out: Metropolis and Culture São Paulo in the middle of the 20th century (two editions); Mining Mythology. The Mineiro Imaginary in the Political and Cultural Life of Brazil (two editions). The System Packaging. Advertising in Brazilian Capitalism (three editions).

She has a vast production of articles and book chapters. She has received numerous academic distinctions, including the: Jabuti Award 2002-Honorable Mention-Essays Category as well as the book Metrópole e Cultura. São Paulo in the middle of the 20th century; ANPOCS Award for Academic Excellence Antônio Flávio Pierucci in Sociology; Imperatriz Leopoldina Cultural Medal, Historical and Geographical Institute of São Paulo.

She was one of the sociologists selected to participate in the book Conversation with Brazilian Sociologists (2006).

She is a member of the Academic Affairs Committee at the University of São Paulo-USP.
