The GPSECC was created in 2010 and has since focused on debates regarding culture, education, and knowledge, including research from graduate and undergraduate students as well as scientific internship students. Stemming from Pierre Bourdieu's social theory, the research group explores the potentials for a cross-sectional approach to the study of symbolic goods and their economy in contemporary Brazilian society. The intent is to articulate the structural dimensions of social organization, the institutional processes and mechanisms, and the representations and practices of members from diverse social groups in order to understand the relations of domination in contemporary class societies. The Group prepares a semi-annual work agenda and meets fortnightly at FFLCH.
